Leona Jean Shafer, 96, of Watseka passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Leona was born on December 3, 1926 in Cabery, the daughter of Francis and Veronica (Mashing) Sheppard. She married Warren Shafer and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Doris Dunsening, Betty Volden, Joann McFadden, and Carol Hildenbrand; one grandson, Matthew; one great-grandson, Clayton; one son-in-law, Kenneth Patterson, and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Shafer.
She is survived by two sons, David Shafer of McHenry and Kenneth Shafer of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Nancy Patterson of Watseka; one sister, Mary Ott of Arizona; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka and CCW. She worked at T.R.W. and Uarco for many years and enjoyed camping. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events over the years.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral mass on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka. Fr. Michael Powell will officiate. Burial will follow at GAR Cemetery in Watseka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice or St. Edmund Catholic Church.
