Melvin L. Allen, 93, of Woodland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.
He was born on August 6, 1923 in Milford at home, the son of Bea and Minnie Pearl (Thomas) Allen.
Mr. Allen married Helen Marsh on July 5, 1946.
Melvin served in the ARMY for 4 years and was stationed in Alaska during his time. He was a printer for the Commercial News in Danville, and a hobbyist farmer. He also enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, and horses.
Surviving Mr. Allen are two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rosie Allen of Woodland, and Terry Allen of Sheldon; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Fred Hill of Danville, IL; one sister-in-law, Annetta Allen of Watseka; six grandchildren, Jami Harris and Amy Allen, Danielle Bowman, Melinda LePetre, Nick and Jake Hill; two step-grandchildren, Kevin and Larry Hill; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchild; special dog, Jake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also preceded in death by both parents; wife, Helen; one brother, Harold “Shorty”; and one sister, Evelyn.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 11am until 1pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.
Funeral Services will also be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Pastor Joseph Hughes will officiate.
Burial will follow at Body Cemetery in Woodland, IL.
