Roger H. Niebuhr, 83, of Crescent City passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 in Watseka.
Mr. Niebuhr was born on June 23, 1932, son of Harry and Mabel (Munsterman) Niebuhr in Arlington Heights, IL. He graduated from Cissna Park High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He married Velma on June 21, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2010.
He is survived by one son and daughter in-law; Allen (Joy) Niebuhr of Crescent City, two grandsons; Brent (Jody) Niebuhr of Crescent City and Brock (Wendy) Niebuhr of Paxton, 4 great-grandchildren; Evie, Ainsley, Emry and Layton Niebuhr; two sisters Ardith (Roland) Heuton of Watseka and Arleen (Gordon) Bohlmann of Fishersville, VA.; a very special friend, Mary Ellen Redeker, of Cissna Park; one niece; Rachel Bohlmann of South Bend, IN, one nephew; Rev. Tim Bohlmann (Sue) of VA and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Bruce Heuton.
Mr. Niebuhr was a lifelong farmer. He operated the family dairy farm with his son and grandsons until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed travelling to Arizona, playing cards, coffee with his friends at McDonalds, watching his grandsons play baseball and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City with Rev. Joel Brown officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Heritage Woods of Watseka or to the donor’s choice.
